Mingus basketball coach on paid leave

With Assistant Coach Albert Rodriguez at the helm during Mingus Union High School boys basketball team's 48-32 win over Kingman Friday night, school officials confirmed Sunday that Head Coach Mark Owens is on administrative leave.

"Mark Owens is currently on paid administrative leave while administration investigates allegations about unprofessional conduct," Superintendent Dr. Paul Tighe said Sunday morning.

Added School Board President Jim Ledbetter: "The administration is investigating. Mr. Owens is on leave while all the facts are gathered."

Owens has been the head basketball coach at Mingus for the past three seasons. This year, the Marauders are 19-9 with two regular season games remaining on the schedule.

What do you mean, "Oh, not again?" Has this happened before?

Oh, not again!

Whatever it is, in all the years I, my children, and my grandchildren were in school, there was never a whiff of coaches engaging in inappropriate conduct. There has to be something wrong with administrative procedures or policies for this to become commonplace.
