11/2/2013 2:50:00 PM Local man in critical condition following Cornville Road mishap
CORNVILLE -- Just before 3 a.m. Friday, Cottonwood Police were called to an injury accident on Cornville Road near the SR89A intersection.
A 24-year-old man was riding in the back seat of a family member's car when they turned from the southbound highway onto Cornville Road. The 24-year-old man jumped out of the car while it was still moving. Family members stopped their vehicle on the side of the road facing eastbound and attempted to render medical aid.
Cottonwood Police Sgt. Cody Savage says police believe the man got out of the vehicle voluntarily, but police are trying to determine why he bailed.
At the same time, the driver of a second vehicle, traveling westbound on Cornville Road did not see man in the road and struck him, causing further injury.
The 24-year-old man was taken first to VVMC and was then flown to the Flagstaff Medical Center where his condition remains critical.
The reason the male subject exited the vehicle as well as the second accident involving the westbound vehicle are still under investigation. The victim's name has not been released.
