That's what Camp Verde Town Manager Russ Martin said about continued efforts toward an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the State of Arizona and the seven jurisdictions impacted by the proposed improvements on State Route 260.
At Wednesday's 5 p.m. work session, the Camp Verde Town Council will discuss the IGA between the State of Arizona and the Town of Camp Verde, Yavapai-Apache Nation, Yavapai County, City of Cottonwood, City of Sedona, Town of Clarkdale and Town of Jerome.
"This is the final hurdle," Martin said. "Honestly, it's the hurdle we didn't get over the last time."
The state will widen SR 260 to four lanes of traffic between Thousand Trails Road (Cottonwood) and Wilshire Drive (Camp Verde). All jurisdictions will need to agree on the following stipulations:
SR 260 will have a rural divided highway cross-section from Thousand Trails Road to Horseshoe Bend road;
A fringe, urban cross-section will be added from Horseshoe Bend Road to Wilshire Drive;
One westbound and one eastbound left-in only access point will be permitted between Horseshoe Bend Road and Wilshire Drive;
Right-in/Right-out access will be limited to quarter-mile minimum spacing;
SR 260 intersections will be designed to maintain a level of service B on main line (SR 260) for a minimum of 20 years. Large developments may be required to do minor intersection improvements;
Seven full-access intersections will be constructed at: Thousand Trails Road (milepost 211.95), Coury Drive (milepost 211.95), milepost 214, milepost 215, Cherry Creek Road (milepost 215.93), Horseshoe Bend Road (milepost 216.78) and Wilshire Drive (milepost 218.30).
Martin said he hopes the seven jurisdictions will be able to agree with the language of the IGA so it can be adopted in December.
"Hopefully, this will be the final step with all communities to agree on moving forward with SR 260," Martin said. "This will lead to the state being fully able to finish the design on SR 260 that will lead to construction."
Wednesday's work session will be held in council chambers, 473 S. Main St. Room 106. A copy of the agenda is available at: http://www.campverde.az.gov/government/town-clerk/agendas-minutes-actions/town-council/2013-0/.
