Violent ER patient goes to jail

Correction: The Cottonwood Police Dept. report sourced for this article states, "Due to Goltz' violent behavior, the Via Del Sol center in Prescott refused to admit him and the Title 36 documents were retracted."

According to Christopher M. Knack, MS, LAC, Director of Northern Arizona-Valle del Sol, "Valle del Sol was called to evaluate Jeremy, however, he did not meet the criteria required for court-ordered evaluation."

COTTONWOOD -- Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies brought Jeremy Goltz, 35, into the Emergency Room at the Verde Valley Medical Center about noon Saturday.

According to a police report, during Goltz's stay in the ER, he placed hospital staff members in fear of physical injury several times. One male hospital employee told the officer that Goltz balled up his fists in an aggressive manner while he was attempting to care for him, threatening to assault him. Goltz then attempted to bite him several times. Goltz also told the employee that he was going to find him once released and assault him.

A doctor told officers that Goltz also threatened to assault him.

Goltz had fled the ER the previous evening and had to be brought back by Cottonwood Police officers.

Due to his violent behavior, the Via Del Sol center in Prescott refused to admit him.

The doctor and staff member eventually contacted Cottonwood Police. Goltz was medically cleared and then placed under arrest for aggravated assault and threatening and taken to the county jail.

If someone is violent in the ER, that person should not be worked on unless he is sedated. No medical person deserves to be treated in an adverse manner.
