The Cottonwood Planning Commission Monday night will be asked to rezone three adjacent Cottonwood parcels so that existing apartments can be converted to condominiums under planned area development zoning.
The project has already attracted some opposition from at least one neighbor who is rallying support for his protest. Phil Moyer, an immediate neighbor, complains the proposed project is too dense and traffic to the future condos would be burdensome.
The Skyline Apartments are now located on nearly 6 acres off 16th Street. Only part of the parcels have been developed in 1982 and 1986 on two of the lots. Developers now propose to upgrade the existing apartments but also build 43 additional units in one- and two-story structures as there is demand.
Moyer complains that for the proposed density, the access to the homes is circuitous and the project is not sensitive to the neighborhood.
To aggravate the issue, Moyer was not invited to the community meeting even though his property is next door and well within 300 feet, the required notification perimeter.
He has circulated a petition among neighbors that is expected to be delivered to the Commission Monday.
The Planning meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Cottonwood Council chambers Monday.
A second proposal to be considered at the meeting proposes town homes to be built on 12th St. between 12th and 16th Streets, just a block from the Skyline project.
