Immaculate Conception Church, Cottonwood, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning, July 11, marking the completion of the huge solar panel array installed in the church parking lot.

Immaculate Conception Church, Cottonwood, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning marking the completion of the huge solar panel array installed in the church parking lot. Officials from Scout Solar, based in Gilbert, joined Cottonwood vice-mayor Karen Pfeifer (center with scissors), Father David Kelash and members of the Immaculate Conception Parish community, including Scout Solar Project Superintendent Virginio Rojas (second from right), to take part in the project dedication. At least 30% of the project costs were spent in Cottonwood, either in products of sub-contractors, according to Scout Solar Engineer and Co-owner David Spotts. The solar array will power the church during the day, and sell excess power back to the grid offsetting electric costs during evening hours - and, of course, churchgoers will also benefit from shaded parking during services. Article comment by: No local company?

I was just wondering why a company from Gilbert was used for this project instead of using one of the many solar groups in the Verde Valley? It would have been nice to keep the job here locally. Just asking
