5/2/2013 1:37:00 PM Swift Water Rescue Training on Verde River
On April 25, Technical Rescue Technicians from Camp Verde Fire District and Sedona Fire District along with Arizona Department of Public Safety pilots met at Beasley Flats along the Verde River in Camp Verde to train in "short haul" rescues. A short haul rescue is when the helicopter picks up the rescuer from the shore line and carries him to the victim in the water. The rescuer then detaches himself from the helicopter line and places the flotation device on the victim. The rescuer attaches the helicopter line to the victim and the victim is carried by the helicopter to the shoreline. Once the victim is safely on shore, the helicopter retrieves the rescuer from the water and carries him to the shore. As monsoon season quickly approaches, the chances of having to perform a water rescue increase. Many people from all over the state enjoy the beauty of the Verde River, which is why it is imperative for first responders to conduct inter-agency training such as this on a regular basis.
