Tractor Supply Co looks at Cottonwood

Jon Hutchinson
Staff Reporter

COTTONWOOD -- Tractor Supply Co. has filed a preliminary submittal with the Cottonwood Planning Dept. to build a retail store at the site of the former United Rentals at Justin Drive and SR 89A.

Community Development Director George Gehlert said the proposal is only in the comment stage at this point to determine if the site would be appropriate to build.

Tractor Supply Co. is a large chain of retail stores that sells products for home improvement, agriculture, lawn and garden, livestock, horse and pet care. Begun as a mail-order business, it has grown to a 1,200-store chain in 45 states, based in Brentwood, Tenn.

The first Arizona Tractor Supply Co. store began construction in February in Prescott Valley and will be completed in June.

The Cottonwood proposal tentatively calls for demolishing the United Rentals building in order to build a 21,000 square foot retail store with another 15,000 square feet of fenced sales area.

I am glad to see another company looking at the Cottonwood area. We can definitely use the jobs and the Tractor Supply Company is familiar to me from back East. Hopefully they will contract with a local company to do the demolition of the old United Rental facility and for the new construction to keep the money in the Verde Valley. Our local builders can use the contract for a year long project such as this.
