VERDE VALLEY - "Inspiring individuals to action," is the vision of Verde Valley Leadership, Inc. The organization's mission is to develop leadership skills, build community awareness and diverse, influential networks.

It has become tradition with each new VVL graduating class to create a Legacy Project to pay it forward in the community to help make a difference.

VVL Class VI has chosen as its Legacy Project the Challenge Trail at Rainbow Acres near Camp Verde. The trail already exists, but Class VI will improve the trail both structurally and visually.

Rainbow Acres is a residential community for adults with disabilities.

The trail at Rainbow Acres is seen by resident ranchers as a challenge to test their physical skills as part of their wellness enrichment and a place to simply get away for a few moments for a short walk in nature.

When the trail improvements are complete, the Ranchers, staff, families and community members will see it as a more inviting area to use.

Laure Thomson, member of VVL Class VI, said extending the tradition of the legacy projects outside of Cottonwood to Rainbow Acres is a great reflection of the VVL vision and principles.

"Choosing to help the ranchers is a win-win," Thomson said. "We have an opportunity to help make a difference - to improve their health and enrich their days."

She explained that the Challenge Trail is essentially a circular fitness trail with exercise stations throughout.

"They have an established trail," Thomson said. "What we're dong is enhancing the fitness trail."

The project will include a concrete slab, drinking fountain, picnic table, a couple of benches and some bushes and plants for landscaping.

"We chose something we could do ourselves," Thomson said.

The class is in need of donations of materials and cash to help them finish the project. Thomson said their target date to have the fundraising complete was originally the first of April.

They are still shooting for that date, but the class will need some organizations and individuals to step forward.

Material items requested include pipe and drinking fountain, concrete, raised flower bed boxes, concrete blocks, bushes and trees, large pots for planting, dirt for plantings, decorative rock and boulders and shade cloth and posts.

Checks should be payable to Rainbow Acres and mailed to Verde Valley Leadership P.O. Box 1663, Cottonwood, AZ 86326.

Rainbow Acres is so pleased to be chosen as the recipient and partner for the Class VI Legacy Project! Making the Fit Trail more inviting and attractive will encourage more use by Ranchers and staff members. Thanks to Been There Love It for your kind words, which I wholeheartedly echo after nearly a year working at Rainbow. It's place of miracles and of promising futures for adults with various forms of developmental disabilities. Thank you Verde Valley Leadership for choosing to help our residents (Ranchers)! Donations may also be made directly on our website with a description of "VVL Legacy" under "Other" in "Gift Description". Call for a tour or contact us through www.rainbowacres.com.

Dear Philip

I spend hours a day seeking out great, altruistic and meaningful projects. My commercial business is based on developing project leadership (as distinct from management) skills.

Part of that uses a project leadership assessment tool we have researched and developed since 2000.

I like to give this away for free to projects like yours - no catches. Feel free to check it out at www.projectleaders.com and if you'd like to use some for free with your trainees, just drop me a line.

Good luck and keep passing it forward!
Spencer

Rainbow Acres is one of the best kept secrets of the VV. Anything you can do to support the efforts of this project or directly to R.A. is money well spent. To see the entire compound is to be blown away by the projects and the successes. The Ranchers are safe, cared for and care for themselves in a manner too amazing to describe. Anyone reading this should reach in their wallets and help this facility grow in continued success. I know I am going to do just that. Try it.. Bet ya like it.
