A 31-year-old woman, driving a 2001 Subaru, was stopped on Main Street Sunday evening when a Cottonwood officer saw that the car had a faulty passenger side head lamp.
According to police reports, Sasha Teal Lavender of Cottonwood seemed curt with the officer when he offered to show her the problem, saying, "No, I believe you and I will get that fixed right away. "
The officer could tell the woman had watery eyes, was nervous and he thought he could smell marijuana.
The officer proposed to have a K-9 air-sniff the vehicle. She speculated the officer might find something and that "a lot of people ride in her car." But, when asked directly if she had been smoking, she admitting, "I smoked a joint about 11 this morning."
Sure enough, the K-9 alerted and the officer having probable cause searched and found a marijuana cigarette in the vehicle as well as needle nosed pliers used for smoking small "roaches."
Lavender was charged with possession of marijuana, paraphernalia and DUI impaired to the slightest. She was cited and released.
