Explosion threatened at Food City

COTTONWOOD -- Propane tanks behind the Food City grocery threatened to go up in flames with a possible explosion Thursday.

A fire was reported on the tanks early Thursday morning and crews from Cottonwood and Verde Valley Fire companies scrambled to hose down and cool the tanks before they combusted. Damage was limited to the back of the store.

Burglary and vandalism at apartments

COTTONWOOD -- A woman reported her silver iPod was stolen from her late model Hyundai this weekend. The woman says the iPod was kept in the center console of her 2010 sedan and was last seen Saturday night at 10 p.m.

The following morning, the car was in disarray and the iPod gone. The Apple iPod Classic with an 80Gb drive is valued at $300. The burglary occurred at the Mountain View Villa apartment complex at 740 E. Mingus Ave.

At the same apartment as the iPod burglary, a vandal is wanted for breaking off the rear view mirrors of a green Ford Focus.

The woman who owned the vehicle told police her side mirrors had been broken a couple days before the report. Damage is estimated at $500.

Another vandalism was also reported in the parking area. Two holes had been cut into the convertible top of a 1996 Pontiac.

The repair is estimated at $1,200.

Someone entered two more vehicles, an older Dodge van and a 2005 Saturn, but nothing was missing.
