Engineer hired for 10th Street rebuild in Cottonwood

COTTONWOOD-- Shepard/Wesnitzer Engineering has been hired for design of the improvements to 10th Street. The section of roadway has been approved for a CDGB grant for "protection of slum and blight." The low-income neighborhood is busy with pedestrian traffic, but has no sidewalks, curbs, gutters and drainage. Many motorists use the road as a bypass between Mingus Avenue and Main Street and neighbors complain about cars racing through the neighborhood.

The plan also calls for expanding the drainage channel now uses a small pipe to dispose of floodwater originated at the airport and flowing along Willard and Mingus on its way to the Verde River. The neighborhood suffers high water during flood events.

Why is it, a major roadway in Cottonwood can not be fixed, as promised, but we can work on a road that does not have a third of the traffic that 12th street does. I drive 12th everyday and I cannot believe how bad of shape this road is, but yet this city will spend several dollars to fill the potholes, and months down the road the potholes return, as a citizen here and my tax dollars going to this city I am glad my money can fill the potholes and not repair the road as promised

I could not agree with Mr. Peck more!!! The 12th street project was voted on and approved years ago. Where have the allocated 3+ million dollars gone??? It certainly has not gone to 12th street! It makes me very suspect that politics are keeping this from even being started!? Hopefully someone will run for city council in the spring that will get the ball rolling!!! Any takers???

based upon news paper reports, council meeting videos available for free online and the minutes/summaries of past meetings- also available online for free, the 12th st project is in process and actually underwent a large public comment period earlier this year maybe? where folsk were invited to provide input on the project as far as the style of roadways etc.

i am sure a call to the city would get you better info. or perhaps contact a council member- their contact info is on the city website, or attend a council meeting and ask.

trying to fit nice wide streets into existing rights of way can be a complex process. couple that with funding timing and construction season windows..and it get's even more complicated.

also the article for 10th st. mentions 'CDBG' funding and that is federal funding that is normally time sensitive- as in use it or lose it... and since that bit of street may not be as complicated it is possible it could be done first... hard to say for sure... a call to the city is the best bet.

When is someone going to do something about 12th St. between Fir and 89A?. That road needs work before 10th. I do agree something needs to be done about the speeders everywhere, but lets get something done on 12th St too.
