Clarkdale Mayor Doug Von Gausig was installed as the President of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Feb. 10. He was first elected to the League's executive committee in 2008, and he was named as Vice President in November 2010. He is the first mayor from the Verde Valley to hold the president's position since the League was formed in 1937.

Von Gausig explained that the League is committed to educating both legislators and citizens about the value of local government in their daily lives. He said the League is working hard to help its 91 member communities deliver services to their citizens in an efficient, responsive and responsible manner.

Von Gausig told The Verde Independent that, "The League of Arizona Cities and Towns provides educational services, such as training in open meeting law, public records law, municipal finance, and a wide range of subjects that help cities and towns do their job better and more efficiently."

He explained that the League also administers the Model Cities Tax Code, which is the basic framework for most of Arizona's city tax codes.

"The League also provides services like executive recruitment assistance, legal opinions, and promotion of local government's important role in people's daily lives," Von Gausig said.

Doug is a life-long resident of Prescott and Verde Valley and we could not have a better advocate.

Congratulations, Doug.
