Capt. Rick Roda delivers a Powerpoint presentation.

History of the Arizona Rangers past and present was the topic of discussion given recently by Capt. Rick Roda of the Verde Valley Company Arizona Rangers. The event was sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute held on the Yavapai College campus in Clarkdale on Feb. 10.

Attendees of the hour-long powerpoint presentation saw early photos of the original 26 men Arizona Rangers created in 1901 and a progression of photos into the 21st century. Capt. Roda's commentary included emphasis on the Ranger's mission to rid the Arizona Territory of outlaws and rustlers at a time when the Territory was vying for statehood.

The Rangers success helped the Territory win approval for statehood as the 48th state on Feb. 14, 1912.

During Roda's presentation numerous questions were asked by guests showing their interest and enthusiasm for the Rangers, at the events conclusion Rangers Sgt. Jack Frost, Willie Lass and Steve Nichols made themselves available to answer additional questions.

Capt. Roda has been in command of the Verde Valley Company since 2008 and under his leadership the company has grown from only a few to 34 Rangers today. Present day Arizona Rangers are an unpaid all-volunteer law enforcement support and assistance civilian auxiliary who work at the request of and under the direct control and supervision of established state law enforcement agencies.

For more information visit or contact Capt. Roda at 928-1891.
