Clarkdale Fire is testing 13 newly installed fire hydrants that were put into place recently when the town upgraded its archaic twin five-inch water lines with a much larger capacity 12-inch standard underground water pipe.
The new hydrants have been put into place along the length of the new water line between the Haskell Springs Well and the SR 89A well, along Minerich Road and the Old Jerome Highway, west of Lanny Drive.
The fire district is now submitting the information on the new hydrants to the ISO (International Standardization Organization) in order for them to update their map.
Those insurance customers located within one thousand feet of the new hydrants should see a reduction in their insurance premiums, if their insurer uses the ISO numbers, according to District Administrative Assistant Joyce Driscoll.
Driscoll says some property owners near past installations have seen a reduction of as much as 30 percent.
