Urgent public appeal for Type-O blood

United Blood Services has issued an urgent public appeal for donors with blood Type-O, the universal blood that can be substituted for other types in emergencies. Just 14 units of O-negative blood remained on the shelves to fill the needs of 58 hospitals - leaving just a four-hour supply for United Blood Services. Supplies of O-positive blood have been depleted to 45 percent below required levels, causing concern about meeting patient blood needs as the Labor Day holiday approaches.

Since it takes 24 to 36 hours to test and process blood before it can be released to a hospital, all donors with Type-O blood are urged to donate at the upcoming blood drives. The situation was created by an increased patient demand across the nation. Out-of-state resources to meet local patient blood needs have been exhausted, so United Blood Services is requesting all coordinators with blood drives scheduled through the Labor Day week to ask all Type-O donors to give blood.

Nearly 500 donors of all blood types are needed every day in Arizona, but Type-O is always in greatest demand.

For an appointment, call 1-877-UBS-HERO (1-877-827-4376) toll free or visit www.BloodHero.com (enter your Zip Code - Donor Center locations detailed below).

Just an observation.
Try to donate blood here in the Verde Valley or even Prescott or Flag area.
Unless there is a blood drive happening it cannot be done. You will be referred to Phoenix or Scottsdale area.
I tried earlier this month to no avail.
