In another month or so, once all the wiring is complete and the testing is done, Cottonwood and much of the Verde Valley will have local weather numbers; Cottonwood will have its own weather station located at the municipal airport.
City Assistant Development Services Manager, Morgan Scott says, while not directly connected to the weather service, the AWOS (Automated Weather Observing system) system's primary benefit is safety for pilots who use the Cottonwood air strip. The system provides for pilot activation using existing Unicom radio frequencies. Pilots in a pre-flight mode can use a PC in the pilots lounge which displays critical weather information.
