Cottonwood man dies of injuries from Wednesday accident in Prescott

Jon Hutchinson
Staff Reporter

PHOENIX-- A Cottonwood man, Anthony Westcott, died Sunday at Good Samaritan hospital in Phoenix. Westcott, 66, was a passenger in an SUV that, witnesses say, crossed the centerline Wednesday night on Iron Springs Road and struck a pickup head-on. He was taken to the Phoenix hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Chevy Suburban, David Crawford died at the scene of the accident. Crawford, 61, was from Paulden.

The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup, Albert Bamsch, 61, of Prescott, was also taken to Banner Good Samaritan and remains in stable condition.

Westcott's body is currently in the custody of the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.

There was evidence that Crawford may have been driving under the influence, according to Sheriff's Office spokesman, Dwight D'Evelyn. Investigating deputies discovered open containers of alcohol in the SUV.

The head on collision occurred on Iron Springs Road just east of Skyline Drive in Prescott.

An accident reconstruction team and evidence technicians were working to pinpoint the cause, D'Evelyn said. They will also address the speed of the vehicles and whether seatbelts were in use.

I have known Tony for about 11 years and he helped me during a difficult time in my life. He was a really good hearted man. I am glad for the time I have recently spent with Tony. God rest you my sweet friend.

My mother and Pat and Tony Westcott have been friends for a long while, they went to school together, my thoughts and prayers are with the entire family, rest well Tony. My mom contacted Pat and he said that the service will be at the Valley View cemetery on Thursday at 11:00.

I have had the good fortune to be Tony's primary care provider for the last few years. He was one of my favorite people. I loved to see him, he was quick with a joke, and enjoyed life, was a loyal and loving friend. I will miss him very badly. My commiserations to his family. I should like to attend his service if the details come forth.
