Girl Scouts' Camp Twilight, "The Wild West," has been ongoing every evening this week at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds in Cottonwood. Starting on Monday and concluding Friday evening, Camp Twilight is something of a weeklong open house that brings together current Girl Scouts and leaders with perspective participants. Coleen Gilboy organized the activities and brought in a host of volunteers to offer presentations, activities and teach skills to the girls. Miss Yavapai-Apache Nation Byani Jenkins, Miss Teen Yavapai-Apache Nation Chelsea Campos and Gerdi Smith from the Yavapai-Apache Cultural Center helped lead Native American Night on Tuesday. The three speakers explained the symbolism of the American flag and Yavapai-Apache Tribal flag as well demonstrating native traditions. The Whiteley family brought good-natured miniature horses Soldier and Lacy to visit with the girls. Older scouts worked on crafts with volunteer instructors during the week. Friday night, "Cowboy Night," will cap off the week that had 50-60 girls participate each evening. For information about joining Girl Scouts as a scout or leader, call Coleen Gilboy at 300-3914.
