Crazy Tony's gets zone change and wine tasting room access

Jon Hutchinson
Staff Reporter

CORNVILLE -- A new strip mall development in Cornville will be permitted to allow for wine tasting in its suites. Crazy Tony's project is already under development east of Page Springs Road on Cornville Road, between the Family Dollar Store and the Manzanita Restaurant.

The project is intended to have a gas station, market and Laundromat, all which would be allowed under the existing C-1 zoning, as well as a residence on the second level. The wine tasting however would need to be in a C-2 zoning.

While the Cornville Community Association recommended against the zoning map change, the proposal had been recommended by the Yavapai County Planning Commission. And the supervisors agreed.

The Cornville Association had discouraged the spread of wine tasting rooms away from the Page Springs wineries. But, the county supervisors pointed out that two Cornville Road neighbors of the proposed strip mall are all ready zoned to serve liquor: the Manzanita and the Old Corral Bar

OK. So a laundromat is for people who don't have a washer dryer at home. Would you agree they have a right to have one and use it? What's the difference if they use it at home or down the street? The same amount of water is being used. Or is this a case of, "I'm here and now I don't want any change or anybody else to live here or any more development" Change and growth are inevitable. Let's embrace it and encourage it be done tastefully.
Oh, the zoning change was for alcoholic beverage serving, laundry facilities were already allowed under the current zoning.

Because everyone knows only the finest wines can be found between gas stations and laundromats.

My guess is that Crazy Tony would make much more money with a Beer Tasting Room.

How many gallons of beer are consumed in Cornville every year vs. how many bottles of wine drank by the country dwellers.

Excluding such brands as Boones Farm and Thunderbird of course

How will water NOT be a factor? It's a laundry mat. It will use a lot of water.... Also if cornville community members asked for this zone change to not happen, I believe it was wrong or the yavapai county officials to approve it. Big government squashing the voice of the people it actually affects.

Let's welcome this new business to Cornville. Tony has done an exceptional job and spent much more money than required to make present a great looking building that looks like it belongs there. Now take a look at the Dollar Store.
Is this what you want our commercial and retail buildings to look like? There will be plenty of new jobs for locals. Locals were also given priority in the construction. Water is not even an issue on such a small project as this.
Let's all turn out to support "Crazy Tony" and tell him how much you appreciate all he does for this community!!!!

Now that Cornville and its WATER have been stolen by another district with a reputation for building with no concerns for water or nature or environment, I would say we are right on track. Gas up , knock down a few and do your laundry. Pay attention, people.
