COTTONWOOD--Work to establish a new permanent communications center for police and fire radios took another step Tuesday. The city hopes to create an independent facility to handle a number of agencies' radio services. The current communication facility is crowded into the Public Safety Building. The city earlier purchased an adjacent property to site the center.
The council agreed to a two-part bid, posting a request for qualifications for architect-engineering services. A Construction Manager At Risk would be sought when plans reach 30 percent. Development Manager Dan Lueder says the final size of the structure is yet to be determined.
He says the project has taken several forms. The city originally invited partner agencies to invest in the operation and others to come on as subscribers to communication services. So far, Cottonwood appears to be the only investor in the project.
The amount of $350,000 is budgeted for the design of the structure. The construction is expected to cost millions.
