COTTONWOOD -- The intersection of Monte Tesoro Drive and Fir Street is a two-way stop intersection that requires traffic on Monte Tesoro to stop with Fir Street being the through street.
However, after construction of the Willard Street extension project in 2009, traffic on Monte Tesoro has increased substantially and City staff has received complaints about the intersection.
Casual observation indicated the intersection was not functioning optimally and city staff performed a detailed study.
The detailed study counted traffic on each leg of the intersection and found that the Monte Tesoro leg has more vehicles per day than Fir Street.
Due to this change in the local traffic, staff is recommending a four-way stop be installed at the intersection.
Should the council Tuesday choose to approve the four-way stop staff will install "Traffic control change ahead" and "Stop Ahead" signs in addition to releasing a public notice of the traffic control change. Note: Picture to the right shows Average Daily Trips for each leg of the Fir Monte Tesoro intersection.
