12/16/2010 3:12:00 PM Mackey named Yavapai County's presiding judge
Judge David L. Mackey has been appointed as presiding judge of the Superior Court in Yavapai County.
Rebecca White Berch, chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, issued the order Thursday.
Mackey will take over as presiding judge effective Jan. 7, 2011, according to the court.
Judge Robert M. Brutinel, who currently serves as presiding judge in Yavapai County, was appointed in November to the state Supreme Court.
Brutinel said this past month that when he took over as presiding judge it was a rare circumstance that he kept the juvenile caseload.
Most counties in Arizona have separate presiding judges for Superior Court and juveniles.
Mackey, who was re-elected in November, said: "My plans, at this point, are still in flux," adding that the governor has the option of appointing a replacement for Brutinel in the juvenile division, and the selection process for the pro tem and family law commissioner positions are nearing their conclusion.
"I am consulting about our best options," Mackey said. "I may be the interim juvenile presiding judge, but I don't anticipate that being long-term."
