Firefighters Jordan Baker (Left) and Sean Chartier present Verde Valley Senior Center Director Elaine Bremner with check for the Meals on Wheels program.

Two firefighters presented a check to Elaine Bremner of the Verde Valley Senior Center Thursday. Capt. Jordan Baker and Engineer Sean Chartier, of Sedona Fire District, made a presentation of $1,800 as a donation to the Meals on Wheels program.

The donation represents part of the proceeds from the second annual Police vs. Fire Basketball Game Sept. 26 in the Sedona Red Rock High School gym. The game, which includes police and firefighters from throughout the Verde Valley, is held every year to benefit public safety workers fallen in the line of duty.

Police topped the Fire team 72 to 66, a rebound for Police after losing by 80 points last year and the first year Police have won since 2001.

The game has been held regularly, but is the second year that it has been conducted under the Sedona Verde Valley Fire Charities banner.

Jordan Baker told a crowd gathered at the Verde Valley Senior Center for presentation of the check that the game also donated 500 cans of food to the Sedona and Verde Valley Food Banks.
