Flags at public facilities will be lowered Sunday. It is the observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
On Oct. 16, 2001, President George W. Bush approved legislation requiring the U.S. flag to be lowered to half-staff on all federal buildings to memorialize fallen firefighters.
The law requires the U.S. flag to be lowered in tribute only a few times each year, including during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
U.S. flags across the country will be lowered to recognize and commemorate these brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives while protecting their communities.
The local community and businesses are encouraged to follow the example.
