Cottonwood's Sharen Pearson on Phoenix TV Monday
Creator of Baby D.I.Y. will appear on Channels 3 & 12

Sharen Pearson of Cottonwood has turned her love of babies and her common-sense approach to do-it-yourself child raising into an expanding career. The creator of BabyFirstTV's Baby D.I.Y. (Baby Do It Yourself) program series will be featured Monday on two television shows.

Pearson will appear at 7:45 a.m. on Good Morning Arizona, Channel 3 KTVK-TV; and at 1 p.m. on Arizona Midday, Channel 12 NBC.

Pearson and her daughter Shawna Allred have created 30 8-minute episodes of Baby D.I.Y.

The programs air daily on BabyFirstTV, and the episodes rotate throughout the month.

The shows are all about creativity and about moms spending quality time with their toddlers.

Baby D.I.Y. episodes are designed around household items that are inexpensive and readily available. Pearson is a true believer that pots and pans will keep a small child happy and entertained as well as any expensive toys available.

Pearson and Allred know from experience that moms and toddlers have fun playing with simple homemade toys, such as puzzles, building blocks, rattles and many other easy-to-make items.

Pearson and her husband, Dennis, have five children and seven grandchildren. If that isn't enough experience, she also has a background in teaching and child development. Dennis is associate pastor at Verde Baptist Church in Cottonwood.

In addition to the television programs, Pearson creates a video series called Goof Juice, and she has designed classes for moms and babies. Those classes are called Goof & Giggle, and they have been very popular. She is now expanding the Goof & Giggle offerings.

"I'm branching Goof & Giggle to special needs children," Pearson told The Verde Independent Tuesday.

The special needs Goof & Giggle classes will address autism, sensory integration disorder, developmental delays, pre-term babies and physical restrictions.

The regular Goof & Giggle classes are divided into four parts - create, movement, songs and explore. Pearson develops new themes each month.

Pearson also conducts in-services and accepts speaking engagements.
