OAK CREEK CANYON -- The Coconino Sheriff's Office is calling it a double-suicide, but, so far the bodies of the two subjects have not been formally identified. The dead bodies were found Tuesday morning near the scenic overlook of Oak Creek Canyon.
Bodies of a woman and her adult son were found by visitors to the popular overlook between a parked car of one of the deceased and the boundary fence. The discovery was reported to Forest worker at the facility.
A suicide note had apparently been written by each of the subjects, according to the Sheriff's Office, and was found near each of the bodies.
A handgun was in the lap of the adult son. Police believe that the mother first shot herself and then the son used the gun to end his life.
The identities have been withheld pending positive identification and notification of relatives.
