Robert F. (Bob) Schmid was born Dec. 30, 1930 in Everett, WA, one of seven kids to Frank and Mayne Schmid. He passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the age of 81.
He was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, one sister, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law and his grandson, Joel Schmid.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary, daughter Donna (Goodman) and her five children, son David and his wife Melanie, two children and five grandchildren, son Gregory and his wife Stacy and their grandson, daughter Samantha (Kar) and her husband Ed and their two children, as well as three sisters, one brother, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, 31 nieces and nephews and over 100 great nieces and nephews.
Bob served in the Army during the Korean war. He went to school at Seattle University where he graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree and met his wife of 55 years, Rosemary. They were married at St. James Cathedral in Seattle and moved to Southern California, where Bob worked in the Aerospace Industry for over 12 years.
A few years later they moved to Cottonwood to simplify their lives and started work in a tomato greenhouse. He ended up working at the Phoenix Cement Plant as a shift manager and office manager for 25 years.
Bob had a life-long love of music, singing with his family as he grew up, ministering in church choirs, playing guitar, mandolin, harmonica and even singing in a Barbershop Choir. He served the community in countless ways: he was a 4-H leader, builder with Habitat for Humanity, renovator and maintenance man at Immaculate Conception in Cottonwood, driver with Meals on Wheels and servant with St. Vincent de Paul. He enjoyed eating with family and friends and playing a rousing game of Bridge on a Sunday afternoon.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 20th at 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Parish in Sedona, AZ.
