Letter: Non-gun-owners should pay higher taxes
8/7/2012 6:12:00 PM
Editor:
I've been following the letters to the editor from John Hall of Clarkdale, and I have this comment. Mr. Hall, in your letter in The Bugle on 7-22, you say that you despise guns, so I'm assuming you don't own one. That is certainly your right.
What I don't understand is your call for a fund to compensate you if you're a victim of gun violence. If you refuse to take responsibility for your own safety, why should those of us who do be responsible for taking care of you? There are a lot of crazy and evil peoplein this world. Am I correct in assuming if onebreaks into your house at night, you don't want your neighbor who has one of those hated guns to come to your aid?
On the contrary, Mr. Hall, I think anyone who chooses not to own a gun should pay a higher tax rate, since the restof usmay eventually have to pay your medical and/or funeral expenses.
