By Jon Hutchinson
The mil levy is rising for Sedona Fire District voters, but board members promise that most taxpayer won't see any change in their fire district taxes in the new year. The rate, which has been at 1.40 rises to 1.63 per $100 assessed valuation for the 2013 budget year.
Budget strife in the district led to a recall of three of the district board members this year.
Like other governmental services, the declining assessed valuation is impacting district revenue.
The tax revenue for the district will actually decrease by $20,000 despite the upward hike in the mil levy.
The district's budget bottom line is $12,754,677, a drop of $525,000 from last year's spending plan.
The budget also includes the first payment for a 10-year lease purchase of the proposed new Midway fire station, projected to cost $1.5 million.
The budget also includes a COLA and step increases for employees for the first time in three years.
The Public Budget Hearing for FY 2012/2013 will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 4:30 PM at Fire Station #1, 2860 Southwest Drive, Sedona, Arizona 86336.
