Knuckleheads play Clarkdale Concert in Park
July 14
The Knuckleheads will perform 7-9 p.m. at the Clarkdale Town Park gazebo located at 1001 Main Street, Clarkdale. This concert is free to the public. Self-proclaimed “backwoods boogie-woogie R&B” band, the Knuckleheads, feature five of the Verde Valley’s key crooners, including guitarists Gary Morgan and Manny Inigo, bass player George Gehlert, drummer John Tenny, and sax aficionado Michael (Shorty) Reed.
The park is located in the center of the town’s historic district on Main Street, between 10th and 11th Streets. Art focusing on the
Verde River
Focusing on the Verde River – a community art and history project of, from, about, for or inspired by the Verde River, is in place for Art in Public Places at Clark Memorial Library located at 39 N. Ninth St., in the Town Complex. A variety of art mediums, including glass, fiber arts, painting, poster art, literature, photography and wood crafting document the many facets that the Verde River brings to Clarkdale and the Verde Valley.
Focusing on the Verde River can be viewed throughout July and August at Clark Memorial Library during regular hours, Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday 12:30-4:30 p.m.
Meditation therapies for cancer survivors
July 21
The next free Lunch & Learn at Verde Valley Medical Center, “Meditation Therapies for Cancer Survivors,” is noon–2:30 p.m. The session will be in VVMC’s Conference Room B, 269 Candy Lane. Staff from the Sedona Meditation Center will discuss the benefits of meridian stretching, collaborative healing and chakra balancing. Guidance regarding experiencing increased stress reduction and improved clarity through these strategies will be offered. To RSVP or for more information on the Lunch & Learn, call (928) 204-4160.
Post 25 Fourth of July celebration
July 4
Cottonwood American Legion Post 25 will host a Fourth of July Celebration on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at 480 Calvary Way in Cottonwood. Turkey and ham will be furnished by the Post so bring your favorite potluck dish to share with everyone. The stage will feature live music by. All members and their guests are invited to come and celebrate our Independence Day.
Sedona Dances of Universal Peace
July 14
Dances of Universal Peace are spiritual meditative circle dances, inspired by chants and mantras from the world’s spiritual traditions. Breakfast with the VFW

The VFW Post 6739, 227 Veterans Way, Camp Verde, offers breakfast on the first Sunday of each month from 8 to 11 a.m. with your choice of chicken fried steak, ham steak or bacon, an omelet or eggs cook to your liking with hash brown potatoes, all for $6.00. Enjoy your breakfast in a non-smoking environment and a great view of the Verde Valley. Post raffle: “Henry” 22 caliber carbine, will be raffled off at 11 a.m. There are a few tickets left, just $5 each.
Jerome Elks hosts Happy Days

On Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. the Jerome Elks Lodge at 100 S. Broadway, Clarkdale, is having an afternoon dance party. Cost for the dance is $5 per person. The very popular local group, Happy Days will provide the dancing music while the Elks kitchen will offer tasty homemade burgers and fries. This event is open to all Elks and guests.
If this event interests you, call the lodge for details at 634-5611. The Jerome Elks Lodge is looking for new members. We serve the entire Verde Valley. To be eligible for membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, you must be a citizen of the United States over the age of 21 who believes in God. Call and they will be glad to give you more information and help you with your application. The Elks welcome new members. Stop by the dance on Saturday and they will have applications on hand.

Airport Commission Vacancy

The City of Cottonwood is seeking applicants for one opening on the Airport Commission. Commission positions are voluntary and non-paid. This vacancy will fill the remainder of a three-year term, which will expire July 1, 2013. Applicants for all of the seats must be tenants/lessees of the Cottonwood Municipal Airport, or shall have a working knowledge of aviation matters. Applicants for these seats are not required to be residents within the corporate limits of the City of Cottonwood.
Commission application forms and a copy of the duties of the commission are available at the City of Cottonwood website: www.cottonwoodaz.gov, or from the Human Resources office, 816 N. Main St., or by calling (928) 340-2717. Applications will be accepted at the HR office through 3 p.m., June 29.
Monte Carlo Night at Post 25

Cottonwood American Legion Post 25 will be hosting a “Monte Carlo Night” from 5 to 11 p m. The event will feature an old time western theme (with prizes for the best costume), a western BBQ buffet, karaoke and will include all of your favorite casino games including blackjack, craps, poker and roulette. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and just a bunch of good old western fun for all members and guests.
