Rattlesnakes are out so please watch your dogs and other animals. Sometimes there is not enough credit given when due, so a big thank you goes out to DVM Gary Pollock of Anasazi Animal Clinic.
Our dog was bitten by a small rattlesnake on very late Friday evening. One wonders what or who to call, so I call our regular vet and, of course, the answering machine was on with after hours instructions. I called the emergency vet in Flagstaff and was told to call Phoenix because it was closer, meanwhile I said a small prayer for our vet to call me back.
I guess my prayer was answered because Dr. Gary Pollock called and advised us to me him at his clinic. By the time we all arrived it had already been over 45 minutes since the bite.
The venom used must be administered within the first two hours after the bite. Doc Pollock went ahead and treated the bite with IV steroids. He kept Bandit overnight and was released to us around noon on Saturday.
At this time Bandit is at home and resting and being pampered like all animals should be.
Thank you to Dr. Gary Pollock and his staff of the Anasazi Animal Clinic in Camp Verde.
