Verde Valley Regional Chamber Mixer

July 24

All chambers of commerce from Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Sedona and Jerome are invited to the Verde Valley Regional Mixer from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cliff Castle Casino-Hotel’s Conference Center.

It’s Fiesta Night, with margaritas, select beers and wines, soda and water. There will also be raffle prizes. Admission is $10 and includes appetizers and two drink tickets. For information call (928) 567-9294.



Movie Night for Free Fourth Friday

June 22

Camp Verde’s Free Fourth Friday includes Movie Night and a Star Party. Town Hall is hosting the movie Soul Surfer (rated PG) in Rooms 206/207, with free popcorn and juice, from 6 to 8 p.m. In the soccer field behind Town Hall, you’ll find Lowell Observatory’s Star Party form 8 to 10 p.m. Bring a blanket and lay out under the night sky.

Free Fourth Friday includes free admission to Fort Verde State Historic Park, the Verde Valley Archaeology Center and American Legion Hall, with a free shuttle to participating venues.



Star Night at Dead Horse

June 23

Dead Horse Ranch State Park hosts an exploration of the wonders of the night sky through astronomers’ telescopes. There will be solar viewing from 3 to 6 p.m., and star viewing at 8 p.m. with knowledgeable astronomers. Bring a folding chair and red light.

Entrance fee is $7 per vehicle up to four adults. The park is at 675 Dead Horse Ranch Road in Cottonwood. Meet near the Eastern Lagoon and Woodpecker Circle. Call (928) 634-5283.



Pepsi-Cola Taylor House Century Ride

July 21  

The 12th annual Pepsi-Cola Taylor House Century Ride will give cyclists the opportunity to ride through the amazing views of Northern Arizona while supporting a good cause. As always, the proceeds will benefit The Taylor House, a special home away from home for the families of patients who are being cared for at Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC).

The 95-mile mountain route begins at FMC and winds through historic Flagstaff, Wupatki and Sunset Crater national monuments, and back to FMC. 65-, 45- and 30-mile loops are also available. All routes wind through historic Flagstaff, and then loop through the cool pines and red rock desert of Northern Arizona.

Experience the Big Band era with OLLI

Quail Country Quilters meet

June 28

Quail Country Quilters will begin with a business meeting, followed by “Ask the Experts Panel” - Setting Blocks.  Be prepared with questions for the experts. Show and Tell will be “Quilts for Men” plus anything else you want to show.  There are no meetings in July, so our next meeting will be Aug. 9.  They meet on the second and fourth Thursdays at 9 a.m. at the VFW Post, 705 E. Summer Reading Group for Grownups

June 26

Share your  joy of reading and learn about books from other booklovers. The Camp Verde Library will continue the Open Book Readers’ Group through the summer. Summer reading for grownups will be held on the fourth Tuesday through August. June 26, July 23, Aug. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Each meeting gives readers a chance to tell others about books they’ve enjoyed. Unlike some book clubs, attendees are not be asked to all read the same book and any adult may come to one or all of the meetings. All meetings will take place in the Camp Verde Library’s Meeting Room (Children’s Room), 130 Black Bridge Loop Road. Monte Carlo Night at Legion Post 25

Cottonwood American Legion Post 25 will be hosting a “Monte Carlo Night” from 5 to 11 p m. The event will feature an old time western theme (with prizes for the best costume), a western BBQ buffet, karaoke and will include all of your favorite casino games including blackjack, craps, poker and roulette. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and just a bunch of good old western fun for all members and guests.



Clarkdale’s Old-Fashioned 4th of July & Centennial Celebration

July 4

Clarkdale’s Old-Fashioned 4th of July & Centennial Celebration kicks off at 7 a.m. in the Clarkdale Town Park located at 1001 Main St. This event has been designated as an Official Arizona Centennial Event.

This year, along with the traditional Independence Day activities, Clarkdale will be commemorating its 100th birthday. You’ll want to make sure you get to the park early so that you don’t miss any of the special activities scheduled.

Blood Drive at Rainbow Acres

Save the date to save four lives in less than an hour. Rainbow Acres will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Palmer Community Center. The public is welcome and encouraged to participate. No boring hospital cubicle or stuffy trailer here – relax in a spacious room with beautiful Verde Valley views while you donate, and get free fresh-baked cookies and juice afterwards.

Cottonwood National Night Out

Aug. 7

Cottonwood Police Department’s 29th annual National Night Out is 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Kid’s Park. There will be entertainment by country singer Brandon Shepard, face painting and bounce houses, food, popcorn, candy and information display. And it’s all free.
