As Mark Twain wrote about India, “‘In religion, India is the only millionaire - the One land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for all the shows of all the rest of the globe combined.”
American Historian Will Durant also wrote, “India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe’s languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.”
This Friday evening, June 15, at 6 p.m. at the Sedona Center of Vedic Culture, Dasarath Pandit who is a seasoned traveler to India with more than 30 visits under his belt, will share some of the wonders he experienced in his recent visit back in January, through a slide show presentation.
Three other Arizonans then accompanied him to South India, where one of the places they visited was an ancient holy city called Sr Rangam. This enormous temple complex (over six miles in length) is second in size to the famed Angkor Wats of Cambodia. The difference here is that Sri Rangam is vastly populated and is very much alive, the temple being frequented by millions of pilgrims yearly. Pandit regularly takes visitors to India through his enterprise called India Shakti Tours, his website Indiashaktitours.com.
The event on Friday begins with a vegetarian dinner, and after the show there will also be some live Indian music with Sanskrit chants. Admission is $10 and those who are interested may call 928-204-4455 for reservations. The Vedic Center is located at 3270 White Bear Road (next to the library).
