Faith & Family screens Mighty Macs at Fisher

Ellen Burstyn cheers on the team in The Mighty Macs.

Faith and Family Films presents its first film of the Summer Series on June 24 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.

The Mighty Macs is a heartwarming story of one woman who wanted to make a difference and wound up making history at a tiny all-girls Catholic college.

When basketball Coach Cathy Rush arrives at Immaculata College, her new position is impossible with no budget, uniforms or gym. She joins forces with Sister Sunday, a young nun who helps her reignite the team’s spirit and the Mighty Macs, the girls basketball team, starts conquering bigger and better funded schools. As financial troubles rock the college, the Macs charge into the championships against all odds. You’ll stand up and cheer for the incredible season that made the real Cathy Rush a Basketball Hall of Fame legend. Based on a true story, the film stars Carla Gugino, David Boreanaz and Ellen Burstyn.

The film will play at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, 2030 W. 89A, West Sedona (across from Harkins Theatres, next to M&I Bank). Ticket donations are $5 each. Advance tickets can be picked up at: Bashas’ in Sedona or Weber’s IGA in the Village of Oak Creek.

Watch for the additional Faith And Family Film Summer Series movies – October Baby, Sunday, July 22, and The Secret of the Cave, Sunday, Aug. 26.
