Shalom from the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley. Erev Shabbat services on Friday, June 8, begin at 7:30 p.m., led by Rabbi Alicia Magal. Members of the extended Sherman family will participate in the service and sponsor the Oneg refreshments in honor of their family reunion.

The Torah portion for this week is Ba-ha’alotecha (Numbers 8:1 - 12:16) in which Aaron the High Priest raises p the light of the seven-branched menorah lamp, the tribe of Levi is initiated into the service in the Tabernacle Sanctuary, and Moses offers a short and heartfelt prayer for his sister Miriam when she is stricken with a skin disease. “Please God, heal her” is all her says, but his plea models for us the power and importance of offering healing prayers for the sick.

The second topic for our study of later biblical books will be a continuation of our exploration of II Samuel, regarding the intriguing and dramatic life and legacy of King David. Potluck luncheon follows the study session.
