DetailsSedona Youth Chamber Ballet is pleased to present fifteen year old Brita Ahlers in the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Brita aspires to a career as a ballet dancer and has trained with some of the best. At the age of 12 she went to New York City to train and since has studied with American Ballet Theater and at The Rock School in Philadelphia, a boarding school for elite ballet students. Brita danced the role of Aurora in a production of Sleeping Beauty accompanied by the Orchestra of Northern Arizona. She credits her mother, Cynthia, a former dancer with American Ballet Theater, with much for her success and for being a primary source of inspiration in her life. Brita is typical of many of the fine young dancers in our community. While they give up much for dance, taking several classes per day five days a week from a very young age, they gain much as well. Young ballet dancers tend to be academic high achievers with a lot of heart and community spirit! In addition, the cast consists of over 20 elite young dancers from Sedona and the greater Verde Valley area. Appearing as the Nutcracker/ Prince is the talented Julian Johnson who is an Honors student at Yavapai College. His love interest, Clara, is portrayed by Sedona Red Rock High Schoolís own Maya Lowney, an accomplished young dancer in her own right. Another talented dancer Adrienne Epperson Roberts of Flagstaff will dance the Chinese variation. The Sedona Youth Chamber Balletís mission is to provide a nurturing environment where serious ballet students can develop their skills while offering productions showcasing artistic excellence to the community. The company is dedicated to providing opportunities that build character and confidence as well as technique and artistry which will carry our dancers into their professional lives. The Nutcracker will be staged at Canyon Moon Theater in the VOC on December 15th and 16th. Tickets go on sale November 1st and are available at Canyon Moon Theater and from Danse Sedona. Tickets are $15 each and there is a discount for groups on 10 or more people.
