Letter: This is your last chance to keep your analog meter

APS will begin installing Automated (Smart) Meters in Cottonwood area beginning Monday. After that, Sedona will probably be next. APS will give one-day notice by hanging a tag on your door.

If you have a blue tag on your analog meter, you will be safe. If not, even if you have opted out (e.g., refused), you'll need to send another written notice to APS and to the Arizona Corporation Commission via mailmaster@azcc.gov, with copies to Commissioner Brenda Burns burns-web@azcc.gov and Gary Pierce pierce-web@azcc.gov stating that you have opted out, but did not receive a blue tag on your analog meter. Here's why this is important.

The opt-out fee will be determined by the total number of rate payers who have refused smart meter installations and have a blue tag. If the total number of rate payers opting out is low, APS will ask for a higher opt-out fee. Therefore, the utility is discouraging rate payers from opting out by telling them that currently there is no option to opt out, or saying that rate payers don't need a blue tag.

APS will attempt to justify that a high opt out fee is necessary because so few ratepayers have opted out.

The greater the number of people formally opting out, the lower the cost to read the meter.

It is unconscionable that the Arizona Corporation Commission is allowing APS to continue installing Smart Meters in the face of research documenting the dangers and Health Agencies in other states recommending to their commissions that the state or county refuse Smart Meters until they are proven safe.

Please share this with all of your contacts ASAP.

This is your last chance to keep your analog meter. http://www.azcc.gov/Divisions/Administration/Contact.asp

Article comment by: No Conspiracy Theorist just Scientific FACTS, where are yours?

To Ignore the Hysteria,

You might enjoy making assumptions, but I don’t and I have a huge body of scientific proof to base my decision on.

My daughter is a health nut and does not suffer from dehydration, living in Arizona since she was 5. There is no soda, chocolate or video games. The dogs bark 24/7 and never did at their previous residences. There is no microwave, cell phones or WiFi because she had her internet cabled for better reception. The kids are not of school age and she doesn’t live in West Sedona or Bridgeport.

Sheeple call people “conspiracy theorists” because they can’t handle the truth and are afraid to look for the answers themselves. You came up with an awful lot of conjecture (which was all false) but not one shred of evidence. Which just makes you stupid.

Here is just a minute bit of evidence, all scientific and peer reviewed. Where is yours?

From the Article "Smart Meters: Correcting the Gross Misinformation

"We, the undersigned are a group of scientists and health professionals who together have coauthored hundreds of peer-reviewed studies on the health effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs)."

At the bottom of this article which appeared June 11, 2012 is a list of 54 scientists, many with links to their peer reviewed scientific studies.

They changed her meter pronto, as promised, so how is this any skin off your back? Unless you have a monetary interest? So it appears the only truth you told was "that you are an APS shill."

The dogs have stopped barking and we will see about the rest, either way . . . what do you care?

@ why

Please be sure to let us know if removal of your one-watt smart meter cures your daughter's headaches, fixes your hyperactive boys' insomnia, and stops your dog from barking.

I hope it does, but don't be surprised if it doesn't. In that case, you might need to consider:

1. Your daughter is dehydrated or has anxiety issues. Much more common.

2. Your sons are drinking caffeine in colas or eating too much chocolate and/or playing video games too late.

3. Your dog is a good watchdog and just doing its job.

Nah, forget all that. Has to be the smart meter! In that case you must also consider:

1. Your microwave oven.
2. Your cell phones.
3. Your home Wi-Fi or any Wi-Fi, including the ones at work and kids schools.

Any and all of these produce much more EMF radiation than a puny little smart meter. So you must remove yourself from all of them pronto!

Or maybe you live in West Sedona or Bridgeport near the 5,000 watt AM radio transmitters? Or near any cell phone tower? You must move pronto to escape the nasty radio waves!

Nah, that makes too much sense is too much work. The only possible explanation is this massive APS conspiracy!

Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean APS is out to get you!

And of course I am an APS paid shill. Full disclosure! No one else could possibly think differently than you, right? Anyone who does must be planted by APS. That sure makes a lot of sense.

You conspiracy people remind me of the twisted folk of Salem that burned witches at the stake centuries ago. You are caught up in mass hysteria and feeding off each other.

There is a difference between a digital meter and a "smart" meter.

there are digital meters that are 'touch' read...

while the 'smart' meter requires no touches...

Article comment by: Why?

My daughter and I both opted out, we live at two different addresses. They said fine.

Few days later, my daughter asks me what does the smart meter looks like? I said its digital, she said then I already have one.

She calls APS not once, but twice and they tell her its not a smart meter. It says it right on it.

We had to call a third time. We tell them we want an analogue meter, they put us on hold for 20 minutes.

Then they tell us, but her bill will go up cause she won't have a special plan and theres going to be a fee and...

I stop her right there and tell her my daughter has been suffering from headaches, the boys are not sleeping through the night anymore and they are now hyperactive. The dogs are constantly barking and all of this started when they moved into this house less than a year ago.

She said they will be out tomorrow to change the meter.

When we called to opt out, why didn't they tell us she already had one? Why did they lie about it on two other calls and why did they finally shut up when we told them of the health changes? They did not even try to deny it was their meter causing it, it was like they already knew.

Google smart meters!

You will find entire countries opting out (Germany).

Billions of people protesting them.

Hundreds of thousands of people getting increases in their bills with time of usage billing.

Recalls and fires caused by the meters which are made in China.

Plenty of youtubes showing that the meters emit more frequently and at higher rates of radiation than we are being told.

If they are so safe, where is the science proving it?

The wonderful thing about those that do as they are told by the corporations, like embracing cigarettes, asbestos, the latest new drug or inventions is that they get to be the guinea pigs or the canary in the mine for the rest of us!

Too bad they take their kids with them.
Autism and cancer is on the rise...

Darwins theory at work, right before our eyes, just to make a buck!

Thanks for relevant news! Since the troll tried to cover it with b/s, I've taken the liberty of reposting it here:

"All any APS account holder has to do is to call 1-800-253-9405 (for the Verde Valley), and tell them you want to opt out of the "smart" meter. They will have you send a particular email to them. Then, in the meantime (especially if you've gotten a door-hanger notice saying the meter will be installed in the next three days), put a sticky note on your meter saying that you have sent the email specifying your desire to opt out. That will (hopefully) ensure that even if the tech people come to install the new meter before your email gets processed, your wishes will be honored."

Don't like meter readers and want to see them on welfare?

Looking forward to centralized control of your power usage?

Tickled pink that your usage patterns will be sold to advertisers and that law enforcement can use those patterns as circumstantial evidence should you ever be accused of a crime?

Pray tell: what is it about the meter that makes you "very happy?"

You individuals are creeping me out! I can’t believe I live amongst so many anti smart meter weirdo’s. You read someone’s opinion on smart meters and you flip out. You folks are kind of biblical in nature. Let me creep you out now, your neighbors’ smart meter is going to get you! You can run, but you can’t hide. (maniacal laugh ensues). My family and I are looking forward to the smart meter. Get used to it, and welcome to the new age!

To 'Very Happy' ~

There is research that supports practically anything, if you look hard enough. You have found what you're looking for, so relax. Good Luck with your new smart meter. Check back in with us conspiracy fans in about a year or two, will you? I'd be interested to hear how it's been working for you.

Oh, if it's not too much trouble, would you mind sharing where you did your research? I'd like to check those sources myself.

Article comment by: FACTS not Fairytales please!

citizens please ignore the propaganda posted here by obvious APS trolls posing as real consumers.

Do not listen to them and do your own research. Check sources in order to figure out their biases.

Ask yourself . . .

Are they making money off the energy industry?

Do they possibly own stock in in corporations that make the Smart Meters?

What is it the so-called "conspiracy theorists" have to gain?

Are they profitting off you or trying to sell you something you don't need?

See for yourself the lies APS is feeding you here:

All the best to you and your smart meter, and please feel free to continue condescending to those of us who have looked a little deeper into this issue, labeling us as deluded "conspiracy theorists." We have found what you choose not to. Your disrespect won't deter people who really want to know the bottom line about this technology one bit. And no one who's determined NOT to find it will be the least bit affected by our warnings.

Same as it ever was, about uncomfortable truths concerning technologies and core values that hold money and profit above human well being. No realistic person expects that to change any time soon.

Article comment by: Very happy with my smart meter

Got my smart meter installed last week. No problem. Glad I did it.

Note to conspiracy theorists: you can stop reading now. This doesn't concern you. Your minds are made up, and you don't want be confused with facts.

For everyone else, I did my research. Listened to what the anti-smart people said, then checked the facts. And you know what I found?

The amount of radio waves produced by smart meters is trivial. They present no health risk.

Here's the facts: These smart meters have a 1 watt radio transmitter in them that sends out a signal typically for a few seconds every 4 hours.

Let's put this 1 watt into perspective. You know the feeble night light in your bathroom? That typically uses 3 watts. So the power of a smart meter is one-third less than that.

Compare that 1 watt to the 1200 or 1500 watts in your microwave oven. Ever gotten sick from your microwave oven? It produces massively more radiation than a smart meter.

Even your little cell phone produces much more radiation (and right next to your head) than a smart meter, and cell phones have consistently been found to present no health risk.

Plus the signal is broadcast out from the front of the unit. It's 10 times less on the back side facing the house.

Frankly, if you're worried about exposure to radio frequency, there is much more from cell phones, Wi-Fi networks, and microwave ovens.

Those are many, many times more powerful than smart meters, and people have used all 3 for many many years with no problem.

So the facts say the anti-smart people are working themselves up into a frenzy over nothing. Pay them no mind.

I was under the misimpression that in order to opt out of having your analog meter changed out for a stupid meter, you had to be the home- or property-owner wherever you live! Wrong! See what happens when we assume? LOL

I'm so glad I found out about this!

@ Just say no to paranoia
Just whose paranoia should we reject? The environmentalists'? The climate changers'? The economists'? The DNC campaign strategists'? The energy barons'?

APS is under pleasure from both Federal and special interest influences. They are being pushed to DO SOMETHING, invest in SOMETHING, use those stimulus funds NOW, before the technology has really been worked out, much less long-range testing completed.

They've got giant solar installations they have to support with inflated payments. They have commitments to their shareholders, including public pension funds. Their customers' best interests are only one factor in this equation. If we don't bleat loudly enough and consistently enough, both APS and the people upon whom its income depends will be drowned out.
