Letter: Pick up trash; earn money

Ten members of my family picked up trash along 260, mile post 221-222 a couple of Saturdays ago. We did this too honor my son Troy Krauter. Troy went home to be with our Lord last September, ten days before his 44th birthday. We made a fun time of it and cleaned up some of our town.

What amazed me was the amount of trash that we collected in one mile - 22 bags, cigarette buts, empty soda cups/cans, papers and fast food wrappers! Camp Verde is the best place to live, for the life of me I don't know why people are to lazy to take their trash to a proper place to dispose of it.

Someone once said that trashy people make trash, I know that can't be the case because Camp Verde DOES NOT have trashy people- it must be all the travelers on 260!

Did you know that you can pick a mile to clean up, only 4 times per year, and ADOT will erect a sign with your loved one's name or someone/group that you wish to honor. There is no charge and they supply the bags and the safety vests.

This is a great way for the church and school groups that are always collecting money for something - to actually earn the money and clean up Camp Verde. Picking up trash is much easier that trying to sell your friends, family and neighbor's things they don't want/need. Really the only ones that make money in these instances are the promoters of the product. How nice for the kids to actually earn their way-not the parent doing it for them. My husband and I live at a mobile home park here in camp verde. Every two days we walk the park picking up trash. We easily fill 3 grocery bags on every walk. Its not just children with throwing down candy wrappers and soda cans but also adults. Beer cans cigarette packs, coffee cups. They will get off of the casino bus at the entrance and throw down their coffee or soda cups even though their is a trash can 25 feet away. We have 5 dumpsters in the park and yet their is trash everywhere. Some people are just slobs who do not care even for their own neighborhood.

A+ Family,

After spending two hours with these folks picking up after those that should know better, you realize that this family unit have many great times together .... even picking up trash.

Thanks for letting me join you.
