Cardinals Moms Clinic educates and informs

Cottonwood "football moms" who attended the Arizona Cardinals Moms Football Clinic at Cardinal Stadium on July 30 left with a strong sense of how the game has evolved in recent years to encompass research leading to higher player safety outcomes.

Beginning last year, the NFL has directed great outreach efforts at educating the public, as well as families of players about new, safer playing techniques such as "heads up" tackling, quick concussion diagnosis and treatment, and evidence-based efforts to ward off heatstroke and dehydration.

The Moms Clinic, hosted by the Cardinals and staffed by the Cardinal players network, allowed moms to run drills on the field, hear speakers such as a neurologist from the Barrow Neurological Institute, view an equipment expert demonstrating how to correctly fit helmets, ask questions of referees and, essentially, to immerse themselves in not just the sport, but the science of football.

Attendees from Cottonwood included Northern Arizona Youth Football President Becky Allred who was accompanied by several High Desert Youth Football Board members and moms.

The NFL will be arranging more clinics throughout the state over the next year and participants are encouraged to share what they learned with members of the community.
