COTTONWOOD -- The Monday evening meeting of the Cottonwood Planning & Zoning Commission is the third chance to comment on the proposed update of the Cottonwood General Plan 2025.
The plan has been circulated and available for public review since January. Public open houses displayed the plan and some of the proposed changes February 20 and March 26. The document has also been fully available online at http://cottonwoodaz.gov/genplan.php and can be reviewed at the Community Development office at 111 N. Main St., Cottonwood.
The Monday evening commission hearing is one of two remaining opportunities to comment into the public record on the plan.
In addition to the Planning Commission review, the final public hearing on the plan is scheduled May 6 before the Cottonwood Council.
Cottonwood voters will then have a chance to vote their approval of the plan at the Nov. 4 election.
In a second matter, the Commission will review the conditional use permit of Minerals Research and Recovery, the company that for years has been planning to recover the old UVX slag pile stacked behind the Verde Valley Fair grounds.
The company has build a roadway access onto Sixth Street to handle trucking and has built and office building and begun moving slag around. The processing will not be fully operational until the milling plant is built.
Tom Hurkett, an agent for the operation is expected to give an update on the progress.
