Groundbreaking Monday for vineyard irrigation line

Jon Hutchinson
Staff Reporter

The City of Cottonwood announces the grand opening of a joint venture project with Yavapai College to provide reclaimed water to irrigate the vineyards at the Verde Valley Campus. The city-designed and managed the construction of the reclaimed water line, funded by Yavapai College. The city also designed and installed a reclaimed water booster station which will provide sufficient volume to meet the vineyard's irrigation needs.

This joint venture was several years in the making and will establish a sustainable, low cost water supply for the vineyard along with a new source of revenue for the city. The use of reclaimed water for irrigating the vineyards avoids the need to pump precious groundwater for irrigation. The project further boosts the city's efforts to expand use of its reclaimed water.

The grand opening will take place Monday April 7 at 11:00 a.m. The location is the new reclaimed booster facility, located behind 1490 West Mingus Avenue (Cottonwood Public Works office). Follow signs from Mingus Avenue to grand opening location.

Wish Cottonwood was being this sensible with other water projects, which shall remain nameless.
