Roy Finch dies
The City of Cottonwood announced the passing of Roy Finch, who served as Cottonwood Police Chief from December 5, 1988 through April 28, 1995. Roy died of cancer while in hospice in Scottsdale. He was 83
Roy was born and raised in Kansas. After high school, he served in the US Navy and began a lifelong career in law enforcement. He served as a US Border Patrol agent, a Deputy Sheriff in Jefferson County, Colorado, a Police Chief in Idaho Springs, Colorado, and Cottonwood. Since retiring, Finch served as a Citizen on Patrol (COP) for Surprise. Ariz. PD before his death.
Roy also served the Scottsdale Police Department from 1965 through 1985 where he rose to the rank of Captain. He earned a Bachelors degree from ASU and a Masters degree from UOP. He completed the Northwestern Traffic Institute Long Course. Roy also retired as LTC with the Arizona Army National Guard.
Services and a celebration of life will be scheduled after the holidays
