10/29/2013 3:18:00 PM Kids Against Hunger food-packaging event this weekend
Kids Against Hunger Verde Valley will host a community food-packing event Saturday, Nov. 2, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Verde Valley Christian Church Gymnasium.
The plan is to package 50,000 meals.
This will be the first KAH event that will keep all the food for local distribution. To date, KAH has packaged over 480,000 meals, with a large percentage of the food being sent to Haiti. Since the inception of the satellite in 2011, it has become apparent that there is an increasing amount of local need also.
To meet that need, KAH will partner with Yavapai Food Council, who will distribute the meals through the Yavapai Food Neighbor's Project. All the food given to YFNP will provide meals throughout the Verde Valley including: Sedona Community Food Bank, Camp Verde Adventist Community Services Food Bank, Cottonwood Rising Hope Food Pantry. Meals On Wheels
Anyone 8 years and older interested in helping with this event is invited to join at the KAH packaging site at VVCC gym located at 406 S. 6th St. in Cottonwood.
Suggested is a donation of $25/person or $40/couple or family. This helps offset the costs for the bulk food product, packaging supplies and shipping fees. However no one will be turned away. This is an event for all involved to have a hands on opportunity to do something for hungry families and seniors and children locally, and enjoy doing it!
