COTTONWOOD -- It's about to get under way. After two years of planning, contractors are ready to finally get started re-building 10th Street, that short segment between Mingus Avenue and Main Street in Cottonwood.
And the city received a great bid from a Verde Valley contractor. It was so good, in fact, that they had to check it twice.
The city was concerned since the lowest bid by Alliance Street Works of Camp Verde came in at $327,637, a figure $251,000 below the highest of 11 bidders and $79,000 lower than the number 2 bidder.
City officials asked the low bidder to review its figures, which it said were correct and reference came back strong. So, the Community Development Block Grant project will go forward.
That short segment tends to be a high-speed bypass, but the lack of sidewalks makes it a hazard from the local pedestrians and especially kids.
