PRESCOTT -- Dakota Slone, 27, from Yarnell, and 22-year-old transient Robert Frost were arrested Thursday, charged in the burglary of a Yarnell home evacuated for the Yarnell Hill Fire.

Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies were sent to West Way in Yarnell, Monday, to investigate a home owner report that someone had forced their way into his house through a bedroom window during the last week. Stolen were firearms, a number of high quality knives, coins, and jewelry.

The victim recalled seeing two suspicious men in their 20s near his residence when the Yarnell evacuation was getting under way and was able to provide a detailed description of both. The deputy recalled seeing the same men on Crest Way in Yarnell. At the time, the two claimed they were helping with the evacuation and that one was trying to borrow a car so he and his friend could drive to Peeples Valley.

Tuesday, the owner of a 1994 green Geo Metro contacted deputies. He was trying to find his car after loaning it to Slone and Frost and eventually found his car parked at the Comfort Inn on White Spar Road in Prescott. One deputy had seen Frost drive the same vehicle toward a checkpoint earlier.

Deputies sent a bulletin to area law enforcement agencies describing the stolen property and by Wednesday, a Prescott detective advised that items matching the stolen goods, including a large Buck-brand knife and hatchet, which had been pawned. The Prescott pawnshop operator said he had paid cash to the suspect Robert Frost.

Deputies recovered the items and confirmed by surveillance video and documentation that both Frost and Slone were in possession of stolen property.

On Wednesday, YCSO deputies found Slone at the Comfort Inn motel room, as well as a stolen telescope taken from the Yarnell home. Slone initially denied a theft, but confronted with the evidence, allegedly admitted his involvement. He said some of the stolen coins were buried "in the woods" in Prescott and showed police where to recover jewelry and coins.

When Frost arrived at the motel, he was arrested. He also indicated some of the property had been sold to a "cash for gold" location in Prescott.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives are in the process of locating the stolen firearms along with additional property. Detectives are also determining if the suspects are involved in any other thefts.

Slone is charged with burglary, theft, and five counts of trafficking in stolen property. Frost's charges include burglary, theft, and trafficking stolen property. Bond for Slone is $15,000. Bond for Frost has not been set.
