City firebomb damage escalates; so does reward

Jon Hutchinson
Staff Reporter

COTTONWOOD -- The cost of the firebomb damage to the Cottonwood City Finance and Human Resources building is skyrocketing. Now, a reward for information has also been increased to reflect the severity of the crime.

Cottonwood police are still seeking suspects in the case in which multiple firebombs created like Molotov cocktails were thrown at three buildings in Cottonwood the same day, April 1, in the early morning.

They buildings included Sun West Bank on SR 89A, Spirit Gas at 10th and Main Street and the Human Resources building in Old Town Cottonwood, which suffered the most serious damage.

Officials say the damage could have been much worse.

The damage to the Finance/HR building now is estimated in excess of $300,000. The actual fire damage was moderate, but the entire building suffered severe smoke damage.

The operations in the office were forced to relocate to the large meeting room of the Cottonwood Public Safety building as an interim measure while the reconstruction is completed.

Investigators are still looking for investigative witnesses in the case. A reward for information leading to closure of the case has now been increased from $6,000 to $10,000.

In solving real estate/land questions there is an
old expression: "Location. Location, Location"

In solving a "crime" question there is an old
expression: "Motive, Motive, Motive"

Motives...for example:
1...collecting fire insurance on the cheap...
2...some one upset with some one else...
3....just a plain old prank...
4...a person looking to buy the damaged
property/land on the cheap...
this list could go on.

The news report showed a broken bottle...were
there any finger-prints on that bottle...etc.

Good luck...hope this case gets solved soon.
