Thunder Valley Rally roars back to town

Que the Thunder. The Thunder Valley Rally will roll back into Cottonwood September 14-16. The City of Cottonwood and sponsoring Cliff Castle Casino Hotel will host the 12th Annual Thunder Valley Rally

The Bootlegging Capital of Arizona will be the drumbeat of activity and loaded with booty. Some $6,000 in prizes and money will be given away through local vendors.

It all begins Friday with the Barley & Grapes Ride. Riders will motor through Jerome, Page springs and the Verde Valley. Then tour riders and locals head to Old Town for live music by the Aces and Eights, Cadillac Angels and Major Lingo.

Be sure to check out the professional motorcycle builder and vendor exhibits. There will be Poker Run pre-registration and the history of Arizona's Bootlegging Capital.

Coffee and pancakes will get the energy roaring Saturday morning at 7 before registration for the big ride. The Knights of Columbus will serve up the hotcakes from the Cottonwood Civic Center at 805 N. Main St.

The rally tours Northern Arizona's most scenic country rides through Oak Creek Canyon, Flagstaff and Clint's Well.

The first 280 riders who register get a free collectors Thunder Valley Rally mug. The Poker Run begins at 10 a.m. from Old Town.

Plenty of music will be ready when you return. It's the 74th St. Band, Rudy "Boy" Experiment, The Mods, HARDRIDE and Hotel California "A Salute to the Eagles."

For more than two decades, Hotel California has touched fans all over the world, by faithfully reproducing the Grammy award-winning sounds of the Eagles. All of the Main Stage entertainment is free to event visitors.

If your interest is custom or vintage motorcycles, be sure to swing by the D&K Cycles & Service Bike Show next to the Main Stage at 4 p.m. The show will be award $2,300 in cash prizes to the top bikes. On Sunday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. Thunder Valley Rally concludes.

Can't wait. As I commented on the biker accidents in Jerome, where is the designated driver when these guys have had a few drinks in the bar? Oh well, it's great business for the bars, and that of course is what counts, right?
