COTTONWOOD -- A young girl, estimated at 8- or 9-years-old, was taken to Verde Valley Medical Center and then flown to the Flagstaff Medical Center after an afternoon traffic accident Wednesday. Several girls were apparently crossing Main Street at 10th when one was struck by an eastbound gray Subaru SUV.
Paint-huffing and exposure
COTTONWOOD - Just before 3 p.m. Monday, Cottonwood Police dispatched officers to the Verde Valley Fairgrounds, on a report that a man was exposing himself.
Roberto Hernandez-Gonzalez, 33, was caught after allegedly attempting to run from officers when the patrol vehicle approached. He admitted he had been at the soccer field urinating with his pants below his knees, according to the report.
The reporting party had told officers the man had his pants below his knees, and a school bus was passing the park at the same time with children on the bus.
One officer had prior contacts with the man exposing himself in public, but, as in this case, no one was willing to be a victim of the crime and file a report. The officer also knew that Roberto and had been arrested last year for huffing blue paint.
At the soccer field, he had black paint on his face and hands.
No spray paint or cup used for the action was found at the park, but a search warrant was issued and evidence found that led to a charge of vapor releasing substances.
Underage drinking parties
COTTONWOOD - The City of Cottonwood is in the process of adopting a new ordinance that would create new penalties and reporting requirements for "unruly gatherings," for assemblies of five persons or more.
Police Chief Jody Fanning told the city council that the ordinance will give the police more teeth when it comes to house parties that often include underage drinkers. One such party Friday night involved 25 people, many of those under-aged.
Cottonwood officers were called to a Verde Heights Drive home late Friday on a report of a possible house party. An approaching officer contacted three people on the street carrying beer. Two men Donaldo Tsosie, 20, and Mauricio Sanchez, 20, and one young woman, Abriana Serna, 18, were cited for underage possession.
The party was found in the 100 block, where officers were already sending those outside who were under 21-years-old.
Those under 21 who tested negative for alcohol consumption were allowed to leave. Those tested positive were cited for underage consumption.
They included Antonio Christopher Powell, 20, Sarah Apryl Garrabrant, 19, and Colton Matthew Staton, 20, all of Cottonwood. Clarkdale residents included Chadwick Wayne Cunningham, 19, and Jessica Ray Herrera, 19. Three underage drinkers were from Cornville, Tyler Dale Speers, 20, Chance Taylor Koepnick, 18 and Amanda Marie Rosales, 20. Christopher Raymond Faernstrom, 20, and Nicole Hoke Mullins, 19, 1ive in Sedona and Manusi Anela Malik, 18, is from Flagstaff.
Two 17-year-old juvenile girls were also cited and referred.
Three women residents of the house Jessica Layne Winchester, 22, Kayla Dawn Sartor, 21 and Erika Gil Morales, 23 were cited for allowing underage consumption on an unlicensed premises.
A total of 25 people were at the house party at the time.
In another case, a noise complaint brought Cottonwood officers to 840 Main Friday. One cop had been at the same address on an underage drinking call two weeks earlier.
Three young women, Christina Trujillo, 18, Angel Issac Jaramillo, 19, and Dennisse Adriana Esparza, 18, were charged with underage consumption.
Abraham Espinoza Vazquez, 19, was caught trying to run from the apartment and was located a short distance away, according to the report. Abraham was given a breath test that also showed alcohol.
Abraham was already out of the Yavapai County jail on bond on a previous kidnapping charge and other domestic violence. During his court appearance, Abraham was ordered to have no contact with Dennisse Esparza at the address.
All four were charged with underage consumption. Abraham was also charged with interfering with judicial proceedings. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.Accident in Verde Village

Every time you turn around their is some new ordinance being put into affect, more and more of our freedom's are being taken away, what is the USA turning into, I'll tell you, it's called socialist!!! As for the under age drinking (I don't agree with) but that's all a part of growing up but it seems laws would rather ruin a young persons life with an arrest record. Laws are needed but so is common sense which this country's law makers don't use!!! Please Reply!!!
