Sedona sex offender gets 10 years in prison
Kirk Harris
Kirk Harris

Kirk Harris, 53, was sentenced on Sept. 13 by the Honorable Jennifer Campbell of the Yavapai County Superior Court, to a total of 10 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections, followed by lifetime probation and sex offender registration.

The sentencing resulted from a plea agreement in which Harris pleaded guilty to Attempted Sexual Abuse of a Minor and 2 counts of Attempted Sexual Conduct with a Minor, all Class 3 felonies, and considered dangerous crimes against children in the 2nd Degree. He also pleaded guilty to Furnishing Harmful Items to a Minor, a class 4 felony.

During the month of February 2012, the victim contacted the Sheriff's Office and reported ongoing acts of sexual abuse by Harris that occurred while the victim was a minor. These crimes took place in the Phoenix and Camp Verde area and were investigated by a detective from YCSO's Criminal Investigations Bureau. Harris was arrested at his Sedona home on February 22, 2012.

The victim expressed gratitude for the efforts of the investigating YCSO detective and the work of the County Attorney's Office in prosecuting this case.

Hopefully the Healing Can Now Begin.
The healing for the victim and family can finally begin. The case was drawn out because Kirk couldn't bring himself to tell the truth in front of the people who trusted his
claim of innocence!
Shame on him for making his daughter and family suffer for over 18 months through this hell. He is indeed fortunate he wasn't sentence or all the counts he was indicted. Maybe, someday he will be truly remorseful for his actions.

No sentence can give back the innocence taken from the victim or the horror she felt. The detective, victim advocate, the prosecuting attorney & Judge Campbell did a great job and the family is grateful for their hard work.Unfortunately it took 19 months for Kirk to some what take responsibility for his actions, which caused the victim & her family even more pain.

It is about time that the YCSO gets off their rears and start to investigate this type of abuse. Although it is a little late for someone I know. I hope that the victim didn't have to confront this person for the YCSO to get enough evidence for the arrest. I also hope that the victim will not have long lasting affects from this person.

I also feel that Harris got off lucky. He should have gotten life for hurting a young child, instead of a slap on the hand.(more or less)
